PRAYERS FOR KATHY AND JIM

Kathy is dying.

Here is part of Jim's e-mail that I received this morning:

"Kathy has started with Hospice. We had two doctors, a nurse and social worker here the other day. The doctor asked Kathy to tell in her own words the history of her disease. He read silently along with hearing her statement the medical report . When Kathy had come to the end of her story, Dr. asked if we had any questions. We had only a few. then he asked if we would like to hear the statistics of life expectancy for this kind of Gallbladder cancer and Liver cancer disease. I looked to Kathy, for it was her decision if she were ready to hear such news. She nodded her head and said yes. Dr. examined Kathy and found her stomach extended and hard with tumors and her ankles and feet swollen. She is still yellow with Jaundice and he learned that she sleeps 18 - 20- hours a day. He said that is normal as the body is exhausted with fighting the disease and is weakened. After his examination he told us that Kathy has in the neighborhood of 2 months, 3, maybe 4, give or take. You could have heard a pin drop with the long silence.

Kathy and I had heard bits and peices in the hospital about her condition. We knew it was terminal but it was a relief and a shock again when Dr. put some flesh to the prospects. We now have work to do both together and apart. Our relationship is beautiful and loving. We are in this together and with God's strength we will see it through. It is hard to think of being alone, one without the other and sometimes I just can't go there."

Please send a prayer Jim and Kathy's way. And if you leave a comment here, I will forward this post to Kathy's e-mail so she can read how much love left in the world came to say "hey" to her. Thanks.

Prayers of courage and support for Jim as he navigates these pathways for which one is never prepared.

Prayers for them both as they hold on to each others hands and hearts with great love in these days.

Praying for you as you support them, and for Jim and Kathy as they walk this hard road together and separately.

I am so glad for her that she has had the courage to look her disease in the eye and walk forward with hospice. May they both find comfort and gentle laughter (and occasional raucous laughter) and companionship and peace in the days ahead.

I pray that Jim and Kathy feel the sheltering of God's wings over them as they walk the last stage of Kathy's journey together.

May you know God's grace and compassion in the midst of a transition that no one fully understands until they are there. God be with you. Prayers surround you and sustain you.

I have prayed for Kathy and Jim and will continue to as they are brought to mind. We have lost 2good friends to illnesses that occured before their "golden years". What a testamony to God's soverignty and power to watch and learn from "their journey". My prayer is that God's glory is reflected to all who know you Kathy and Jim and that He will strengthen you until you see Him face to face!
